The Southern California Regional Tournament features undergraduate teams from California, Arizona, and Utah that will be competing in “mock trials” for bids to the National Tournaments. The trials are fun and rewarding experiences for volunteers. Judges watch and score these students performing as attorneys and witnesses on trial procedure, knowledge of the law, credibility, and acting. They also provide invaluable critiques and advice after the trial. This experience is a great opportunity to help teach and advise future lawyers. Signing up is quick and easy: just click here and fill out our short and simple form. This website also contains information on dates, times, and location, a case summary, and what to expect during the competition. No previous experience is necessary, and all law students, attorneys, and judges are encouraged to volunteer. Judges can preside over the trials, or act only in a scoring capacity, depending on preference. Once you sign up, we will be sending you a judging packet with all of the information you will need before the tournament. Breakfast, lunch, and refreshments will be provided. This year we are honored to host 28 teams, so there will be 14 simultaneous trials, each requiring three judges. With four rounds of competition, we have 168 judging slots to fill for the weekend! Judges may participate in one or more trials, and we hope some volunteers will judge more than one round. Your help is critical in meeting this goal and providing the best possible competition for these hard-working and talented students. We appreciate any assistance you can provide. We encourage you to share this information with your colleagues, associates, and friends who may want to volunteer as well. Thank you so much for your help!
